Case Studies in Public Health: Challenges and Learnings from High Profile Projects
Join the Greater Cleveland Public Relations Society of America's Healthcare Special Interest Group as we host a panel of local experts who worked on real-life public health situations and campaigns in 2009.
The discussion will focus on experiences with media, event planning, crisis communication, internal communication, public perception, education and more. We'll learn about the challenges and lessons learned from the following happenings:
Free Health Care for All in Need - How do you successfully bring together hospitals and healthcare organizations in the area to provide free health care to Northeast Ohioans while dealing with H1N1 flu concerns? Hear straight from the experts at MedWorks, formerly RAM Ohio, who will take us inside this massive public event.
Seasonal and Swine (H1N1) Flu Vaccination - With the public in a panic over a possible flu pandemic, communicating about vaccine availability and safety, organizing public vaccination events and dealing with the layers of government overseeing the process provides a great landscape for learning. Matt Carroll, director of the Cleveland Department of Public Health will share his experience.
Organ Donation & the Death of a Public Figure - When Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones passed away suddenly, all eyes were on LifeBanc as the organization worked with the family and the media to educate them on the importance of organ donation. Learn how LifeBanc balanced this delicate situation straight from the team involved.
Attendees walk away with the ability to:
- Identify the planning and process necessary to execute a proactive public health campaign
- Manage a reactive public health event and/or crisis, and know the resources available locally to help in these situations
- Apply the "hindsight is 20/20" learnings from real-life, high profile events
